August full moon in Aquarius

Tomorrow is the full moon again, this time in Aquarius. This can see the culmination of events or ideas that began with the new moon in Capricorn a couple of weeks ago, or it can take a longer view and bring to some sense of fruition or completion things begun under the Aquarian new moon back in January.

And there’s another interesting side to this full moon in that it ties together and brings to completion some of the issues stirred up by the Mars and Venus retrogrades. This is because the January new moon in Aquarius happened just before Mars went retrograde and this full moon happens just after Venus has left her shadow. The Sabian symbols have an interesting story to tell for this one – first a turning away from the crowd (Mars went retrograde), and then a new inspiration and motivation (Venus leaves her shadow):

KEYNOTE: The individual’s self-realization through a crucial repudiation of a collective status which has become unbearable.

This symbol recalls the one for Scorpio 21°, but the fact that actual “desertion” is emphasized and reference is made to “the Navy” suggests that the crisis symbolized here is one implying an irrevocable change of status. Man refuses to accept the type of cultural patterns derived from his society’s specific approach to local circumstances and to the universe as a whole, and in another sense, from its particular relationship to the all-human collective Unconscious. (The Navy refers to the ocean, symbol of primordial and unconscious evolutionary forces.) He not only refuses to obey orders, he deliberately turns his back on his collective social status; he becomes an outcast, and through this decision he may definitely individualize his consciousness.

This is the third stage of the sixty-first five-fold sequence. Something with collective social value is being potentially destroyed, but nature is not the destroyer (as in the preceding symbol). Man, the individual, steps out of his bondage to collective patterns and ideals. He may thus “find himself’ by means of a sharp renunciation of his social birthright, i.e. by a crucial process of DESOCIALIZATION.

KEYNOTE: The need to rely upon inner inspiration and guidance at the start of new developments.

What is implied here is the essential value of keeping open to the descent of spiritual or Soul forces, especially when a new period of individual activity is about to begin. The individual should not depend mainly on outer circumstances and on traditional — and in a sense external, because collectively formulated — incentives. There is a creative power within, a power that can be tapped, or rather that should be allowed to flow into the brain-consciousness or the hands which write or fashion materials into original forms.

This is the first stage in the sixty-third sequence of five phases of activity. It refers to the OVERSHADOWING of the individual consciousness by an inner, yet transcendent, Power.

The chart is interesting with the Sun flanked by Sophia, goddess of wisdom and Urania, muse of astronomy and astrology indicating insights leading towards the future. In fact, the chart begins to involve a number of the muses:

Erato the muse of love poetry is sidling up close to Mars while Thalia muse of comedy is turning the antics of Ixion and Pholus into a bundle of laughs – the best way to recover from some of the nastiness Ixion tried to spread around (I write about this here:

Terpsichore, muse of dancing is having a high old time with Juno and Diana while Melpomene, muse of tragic story telling is gazing across at Venus and crafting a lovely little tear jerker from the recent tales of her journey through her shadow. Finally, for this chart, Euterpe, muse of music is hanging out with Mercury, seems like they are probably having a nice little get together with singing and story telling.

The moon herself is making a lovely grand trine to Jupiter and Mars with Erato, making a kite with the sextile to Uranus – another indicator of inspiration and insight.

All in all the chart looks enormously creative to me, great news for people involved in the arts who should be able to tap into some new ideas and inspiration at this time. Maybe there will come news you have been waiting for, a light will be shone on something you have wanted to do, or just insight for a new, more creative direction in your life, possibly something you have been trying to grasp over the past few months but which has been eluding you will now finally slip into place.
