The Sun is now fast approaching Mars and will meet up exactly with him tomorrow, 18th April. This marks the beginning of the Mars cycle which lasts for approximately 26 months and can be viewed as a kind of ‘heroic quest’. In fact, because of the Mars retrograde coming half way through the cycle and the unusual, altered energy of the retrograde period I have referred to it as a shamanic quest. Now, as the Sun and Mars meets up, especially because they do so in Mars’s own sign of Aries, Mars is feeling full of energy and enthusiasm – so much so that the sheer energy there is the moment could become rather unpredictable and erratic if it isn’t channelled. Uncontrolled Mars energy can lead to arguments, accidents, angry outbursts and so on – and pretty much the only thing trying to control Mars at the moment is the Sun – not exactly known for his temperate nature!
However, Mars is looking straight across the skies to where he will later turn retrograde, as if he hears a distant drum beat calling him to adventure – he hears hints of other places, new opportunities, as yet un-thought-of possibilities and is restless and eager to get on and achieve things. Perhaps if we channel this energy into looking ahead, getting some insight on what it is we want to achieve over the next couple of years, where we want to expend our energy, then the illuminating power of the Sun could give us some valuable insights about how to get there and fill us full of enthusiasm for the journey.
So try to take some time out over the next couple of days to think about what you really want to achieve, where you want to be in two years time and what you are prepared to do or to give up in order to get there. This Mars cycle includes a retrograde in Libra – other people will be important in helping or hindering us in achieving our aims and we will get some suggestions over the next couple of days about how that help or hindrance will manifest. Mars is also about to head out of Aries so it’s also a good time to simply tune into his raw energy and enjoy the feeling of being alive and being able to do things – so make some time, too, to simply do things that make your body feel good and full of energy.
