In my last post I wrote about the interconnections between this Mercury retrograde cycles and the movements of Mars, linking it to the last Mars retrograde cycle back at the beginning of 2012. Now I want to highlight another aspect of this Mercury retrograde – its tying together of the movements of big-hitting planets Jupiter and Saturn.
Mercury is playing a bit of a go-between role with these planets at the moment. Jupiter and Saturn are in a wide trine to one another which means their energies are working well together. However they have been moving apart ever since mid-July – it seems that something agreed upon then has not been fully put into action. That last trine of Jupiter and Saturn occurred at the same time (within minutes) of Uranus turning retrograde so it seems as though some issues to do with ideals, technology or general surprises and unexpected happenings have been impacting upon the ability of Jupiter and Mars to deliver upon their agreement. That agreement will be somehow connected to the big themes of Jupiter and Saturn – philosophy, society, community, responsibility and hard work. It is also connected to issues of home and security with Jupiter in Cancer while Saturn in Scorpio focuses on firming up shared agreements and making sure there are no nasty hidden extras in the small print.
Now Mercury is working to bring these two back together, to remember what it was they agreed upon back in July and to set things in motion so that it can be achieved. Having made the conjunction to Saturn, Mercury is now moving into a trine with Jupiter – however, before he perfects that trine he heads back towards Saturn, double-checking arrangements, agreements and contracts. As he does this Jupiter heads back to make the connection with Saturn – it looks as though Mercury’s failure to make the connection gets him looking back and he realises that Saturn isn’t quite there with him just yet. So Jupiter heads backwards as Saturn heads forwards and Mercury again does an about turn and heads forwards again to connect first with Saturn and then with Jupiter, passing on the necessary information so that when Jupiter and Saturn finally do perfect the trine again they have all they need to know at hand.
That connection is made in mid-December and as they join forces again Uranus is preparing to move forwards again. The connection is also made just as Saturn crosses the place in the heavens where Mercury went (will go) retrograde at the end of October. It is made as Jupiter is retrograde and is therefore concerned with ensuring that all the right conditions are in place – that home concerns are underpinned by the kinds of philosophy that sustains it and is linked into a supportive community – he’s really doing his groundwork on this one. Meanwhile Saturn is in shadow meaning that he will come back to this place in 2014 revisiting arrangements and agreements and thrashing out anything that doesn’t work or that gets in the way of achieving the agreement.
In May 2014 Jupiter and Saturn make their final trine and by this time we will see just what they have managed to achieve.
In everyday terms what we are looking at here is a feeling that something ought to be delivering more than is actually is, something should be more settled and fixed than it actually is. Something should be easier than it actually is. The coming months will unpick what is underlying these situations so that we can see their dynamics more clearly and are able to act upon that knowledge to achieve a more balanced way of living. It will be hard work though and it will require a sense of vision – a vision of what could be, of how things could work, of how society and community could be more sustaining and of how we can work to make that real. This vision will be both challenged and crystallised by the coming Venus and Mars retrograde cycles which also tie into the current flows – but more about that at a later date.
